Structural Integration

Hellerwork Structural Integration focuses on re-aligning major body segments within the line of gravity, along with movement re-education and self-awareness dialogue.  This realignment within gravity is achieved through myofascial restructuring, a ‘live sculpture’ kind of bodywork that focuses on organising and lengthening the fascia, or connective tissue. 

This fascial web wraps everything in the body, cells, muscles, organs and bones.  The body is constantly repairing and mending itself, adhesions or scar tissue form in our fascia from repetitive strain or trauma.   If not treated, microadhesions and scar tissue resulting from poor posture, injuries, or surgery can mature and restrict the natural gliding between muscles, leading to joint restrictions.  Dehydration occurs and twisting patterns contribute to fibrosis, discs that herniate and bulge, causing sciatica and scoliosis.  Rotations can lead to long-term degeneration of connective tissue in the knee and hip joints, as well as stress on the nervous system.

The SI Practitioner and client work together using unique techniques to unhook joints/bones and muscles from their network of restricted fascia giving immediate relief.  Functional and postural changes can be profound after one session, and the improvements are permanent.

The restructuring of fascia within gravity allows energy and electrical currents to travel through the re-hydrated ‘juicy’ connective tissue network, ‘the body’s world-wide web’.  Carrying bio-electrical signals between all systems of the body, adding energy to all cell membranes.

A feeling of lightness and freedom is felt as local and system-wide restrictions are released.  Clients can experience emotional releases during a session, others report results that include whole-body shifts and trauma resolution.

How Structural Integration Helps?

Although Structural Integration may be effective for pain, or relief of tension, it is recognised that pain and tension are usually the result of an overall pattern of imbalance occurring in your body. Rather than treating the pain or tension “symptom” of this imbalance, we focus on rebalancing your entire body, so that it can exist in an optimal state of balance and grace.

It is not a remedy for illness; rather, it is a process in which you are moved from your current “average” state to your optimal level of health and wellbeing. When posture, flexibility and range of motion are maximised to your body type and shape, you will be in a better position to achieve your fitness goals.

“In Structural Integration, we expect to give a cycle of ten sessions.  There is a reason for this.  We are not dealing with local problems.  We are not dealing with the kind of thing that you can say, “Well, I fixed that, that’s all.”  We are dealing with intent to make a body more secure, more adequate within the field of gravity.  This requires that muscles be balanced, they need to be balanced around a vertical line.  And, when I talk about balancing muscles, I’m talking about balancing the right side against the left side.  About balancing the front of the body against the back of the body, and finally, about balancing the innermost muscles against the outermost, the inside against the outside, this is the most important of those balances, and we start from the outside working in, and it takes us ten hours (sessions) before we can get to the place where we can really balance the outside against the inside.”
